ABOUT US
The Interfaith Forum (formerly the Interfaith Council) was launched in December 1999 and since then has worked continuously to build stronger links between faith communities and to promote community cohesion and social inclusion within Blackburn with Darwen. Since its inception, Interfaith Forum has become a trusted forum for exchange between the different faiths in the Borough.

What do we do?
What do we do?
Members of The Interfaith Forum work together:
- To advance public knowledge and mutual understanding of the teachings, traditions and practices of the different faith communities in Blackburn with Darwen.
- To celebrate the different and distinctive features of each faith and increase understanding of the positive role that the faith communities can play in society.
- To promote working together on common ground and good relations between people of different faiths and no faith
Why?
Faith communities in the Borough, as well as throughout UK, are making Britain one of the most religiously diverse countries in the world. The Interfaith Forum provides an opportunity for people of different faiths to discuss issues of shared concern and work together to promote understanding and co-operation, recognising the common issues facing communities across faith boundaries as well as identifying the problems of marginalised and socially excluded groups.
HOW DO WE GET INVOLVED?
The Forum’s membership is determined from nominations from respected faiths. Members of the following historic world faiths who have members living within the Borough may each appoint up to four members:
- the Christian community
- the Muslim community
- the Hindu community
- the Jewish community
- the Sikh community
- the Buddhist community
Other historic world faiths can also request to join
e.g. – Zoroastrian, Jain and Bahia
Each Faith’s umbrella organisation can appoint up to four representatives to the Advisory Committee.
