Tributes paid to ‘kind hearted’ Jewish woman who was Manchester’s symbol of unity following Arena attack

Tributes have been paid to a ”lovely, kind hearted” Jewish woman who became one of the symbols of solidarity between faith groups in the wake of the Manchester Arena bombing.

Renee Black, who was 96, passed away in the early hours of May 7.

She became a symbol of unity after praying with her Muslim friend, Sadiq Patel, in Manchester’s Albert Square following the attack. At the time, the pair told Granada Reports their different faiths ”didn’t matter.”

They were members of the Blackburn Interfaith Forum and had been friends for 21 years.

In a statement, Mr Patel said ”she was like a friend, elder sister, and at times a mother”
